Simon Ripley is co-founder and now a Director of Exeter’s Double Elephant Print Workshop. Double Elephant, now in its 20th year, is a community workshop offering teaching and access to printmaking. The workshop has developed a strong reputation for printmaking projects with vulnerable adults, printmaking in schools, in prisons and with hard to reach communities. Recently Simon has been working with patients suffering from Dementia at Franklyn Hospital in Exeter and with men at risk of suicide in Torbay.
Simon makes mono print linocuts from his garden studio using an 1850’s Columbian Press. His community based work inspires an artistic response in his own prints – his use of strong motifs and colours. The aim is to create work which allows for contemplation and Simon hopes that the audience for his work will find connections, memories and stories of their own in his work.
Simon grew up in Leicestershire and went to school in Lutterworth. Having studied Fine Art at Plymouth University he has now settled with his family in the South West.

Just to say a HUGE thank you for the care you took over my framing, the 36 year old paper was starting to disintegrate and now it is preserved for the future – I am thrilled!

I’ve had a few pictures framed by Jonny & Shenac who offer a great service and excellent results. as well as providing a fantastic framing service, they are patient & informative & obviously expert in their field. The gallery is full of well curated artwork, ceramics, homeware & textiles. Warwickshire artists are well represented and it is easy to find something beautiful, interesting and original. Love it. The gallery is bright, wonderfully laid out and you are made welcome everytime you visit.
I use Fosse House Gallery all the time for my picture framing. As an artist it’s important to get the frame right for each piece of work and Fosse House Gallery as well as being friendly & welcoming have the knowledge & skills to help with decision making. They have an extensive range of frame sections to choose from. Also, if you’re looking for a gift or artisan handmade piece, the gallery has a wonderful range of arwork. Well worth visiting.

Picked up my picture and so thrilled with the result due to patience, understanding and pleasant people to deal with. Altogether a very pleasant experience.
I was lucky enough to find myself at Fosse House Gallery a few weeks ago. The knowledgeable and friendly owner Shenac, has a wonderful eye and her creative space was packed full of delightful art and gifts. I couldn’t resist leaving without several packets of her delightful signature ‘bee’ cards. I will definitely be back.

Just had 2 pictures framed of my artwork and am SO pleased with how professional they now look! Jonny was so helpful and took time helping me choose the right frame & knew exactly what I wanted. I’m a novice at this, but Jonny made me feel not only great for such a good job he made on framing my work, but gave my confidence a bit of a boost! Definitely bringing my artwork here again. Thanks Jonny! See you soon! Give Sox a cuddle from me.

Thanks for doing such a great job with the Hockney print. It’s now hanging in the hall for all to see and looks fabulous.
